For a couple of years we keep getting the same articles from several foreign newspapers about Beirut.
Journalist has a bad image of Beirut, Journalist is invited to a specific hotel in DownTown Beirut, Journalist arrives at airport then taken directly to the hotel avoiding any “bad” areas, Journalist sees DownTown, Journalist sees Gemmayzeh pubs and nightclubs, Journalist is taken to see something handpicked outside Beirut making sure to avoid any “bad” areas. Journalist goes home and write how Lebanon is ALIVE again, how Beirut never sleeps, how Westernised it is , how cool the nightlife is.
Fucking retarded articles, and problem a serious part of Lebanese people believe their lies so much that they live it. Not even seeing that electricity gets cut half of the time for people outside of Beirut, Fresh water is bought in plastic bottles instead from the tap, people can’t afford to live, pay rent for proper buildings (Ashrafieh building anyone?), political instability, war looms in the background all the time, and only the elites enjoy wealth and life.
Yep… Lebanon and Beirut… so damn good.

This is something that Lebanese love to say to foreigner, something we learn in geography class since we are kids.
Now let’s see if this really the case.
First let’s pretend that the day is amazing and warm just after a nice storm that filled the slopes with fresh snow, so you can therotically do both.
If you live in beirut and you want to go to Faraya on the weekend even that it’s not that far distance wise, traffic will make it impossible to reach it in less than 2 hours.(unless you want to wake up at 6, but then the slopes don’t open before 8). You want at least a couple of hours to do ski then start the way down and what not. You would have lost money because there is no such thing as a half day fee.(only applies after 12).
You take the trip down and then you realise it’s fucking winter, no private beaches are open! Because of all illegal private beaches construction there is almost no public sandy beaches in Lebanon!!!! there are very very few, and usually very very badly maintained, trash everywhere and maybe some oil from the 2006 war.
So you look at yourself, and then you tell your foreigner friend next to you: oh theoretically we could.. but this and that, and the damn government , and the weather…
Your foreigner friend smiles and nods but in his mind says: Shut the fuck up, since I met you and you boast about Lebanon and that you could ski and swim on the same day… let’s go back to my hotel they have a heated indoor swimming pool you fuckstard…

The secret to surviving Lebanon is doing what the young people do: Escape.

They go out at night, get drunk, get high, dance, and it kinda seems as if daily fucked up life is not their real world.
The way some people live is so detached from reality that is shocking.
I guess it is the only defence mechanism they got left in this fucked up country.

Dear Lebanese stop complaining!

You are getting better internet and 3G services and all you can do is whine. All I see is statuses whining that the internet won’t be unlimited , that 3G is expensive?
Really compared to what??Japan? 512mb on 3G in Canada costs $15, it will cost $19 in Lebanon. That’s fucking impressive for a country that a month ago did not have 3G don’t you think?
Canada doesn’t even have 5G packages!!! the limit is 1G and then you pay per mb!
And about the internet, you complain it’s expensive? compared to what too? a year ago in Canada I was paying a bit more than $50 for 8mbit and 30G. There is no such thing as unlimited.
In other words stop following the sheep that are whining because of political agenda and start seeing what you will have! a serious fucking upgrade from what you used to have!
Remember Lebanon is a 3rd world country, with occupied Land, in a war state, in a semi civil war state, where most people are sectarian and hate each other!
So to reach this fucking service is amazing!
If you don’t realise that, then go fuck yourself or something.

During the 2006 war , tons of lebanese fled the violence and went to syria for shelter and they got welcomed with open arms, and now when syrians need to flee their country because of violence committed to them by their government [shelling with thanks residential areas] what does Lebanon do??? refuse them entry!!!
WTF is that??? you are accessory to MURDER!!!!

Update: seems they are allowed in, either it was a rumor or they were not allowed for a while. Not sure, but it was in several articles.Meh I should reading Lebanon news, each invent lies to slander what ever side… Bleh.

Remember guys when last year all you were seeing are ads and articles everywhere on how Beirut is awesome, nightlife is amazing, and lots of Lebanese starting boasting about it while their country is falling apart left and right?
“oooh beirut is amazing”, “ooo it’s one of the cities recommended to visit in 2010”, “ooo it’s a wild place”
Well guys, Beirut is no where to be seen on a list in 2011, the last fake facade is gone.
Instead all we see now are articles about how much debt we have, how businesses are closing in Lebanon, how bad the politics are, how corrupt politicians are, how we have the worse internet on the planet, how people are immigrating away, etc…
The only good movement that I see in there is the anti sectarian movement, but still a very small minority, some idiots think it’s anti religion, and other fuckers think it will destroy their well established power and corruption so they will not be able to go party at night…boohoo…le snif.
May Lebanon Rest In Peace…

In Lebanon everybody complains about scooter, they’re noisy, annoying, their riders don’t respect any law what’s so ever, they go the wrong way, they ride on the side walk, they wave in and out of traffic and if you hit them with your car , it’s your fault.
Well, In Montreal, when you take a Motorcycle course and they show you pictures of things not to do, surprise surprise Lebanese scooter drivers come up in their presentation…
Thank you for spreading your retardation 2 continents and an ocean away…

There are alot of Lebanese websites that I visit daily to get my compulsary updates of Lebanon. I visit several sites from opposing political points of views, just to see what each side has to say, then I try to take what’s common, most probably true, and what is different, which means it needs further looking up into; check inconsistency , holes, and previous news to see if its continuous or fishy.

One thing is common to all Lebanese media sites: visually, THEY SUCK.

They have great graphic designers, but very very very bad web designers and publishers. On most sites you see amazing pictures, banners, logos and what not; but regarding the total design, its crap, its cluttered, its full of advertisements that have nothing to do with what I am reading(meet muslim women from Lebanon as an example while reading some sinister news), flashing pictures, endless pages where I have to scroll down to reach the end, several columns, impossible navigation, and totally crap experience generally.

Its like a metaphor of Lebanon, if you focus on a few parts they are amazing, but as a whole its total crap, nothing works as it should, too chaotic, too flashy, too money oriented.
