  1. RE: learning to cook – perhaps you might like “Cooking for Engineers”, a blog full of info, including step-by-step instructions with pictures for cooking all kinds of things.

    Shepherds Pie here:

Unfortunately the recipes are heavy on the American stuff, including 2 casseroles made with cream of mushroom soup, and lots of sweets. But you’ll find good recipes for lamb chops, pan-fried scallops, pan-grilled fish, etc. I also recommend the oven baked potatoes.

My new personal blog, Leila’s Commonplace, also features plenty of recipes.

But if you don’t know how to cook, then the recipes aren’t a lot of help. You want the cooking for engineers site so as to look at the pictures. He’s very … precise.

Good luck with this resolution. Cooking for yourself and friends/loved ones is a great skill to acquire. You’ll eat healthier, save money and have fun.

Oh yes, one more thing – cook with a friend who knows how. Offer to help in the kitchen; let them tell you what to do (you can do it your way later). This is a great way to learn – it’s really the best way to get started. Cookbooks are for later, when you have a clue of how to go about it.

  2. nice resolutions! good luck

  3. thanks both 🙂
