1)What Languages you program in? (and what compiler?)
2)What OS do you use?
3)What IDE do you use?
4)What Version Control do you use?
5)What Backup Solutions do you use?
6)What unit testing do you use?

I recently got back to the programming world, and I am trying to catch up with what I missed.
Lets just say my knowledge and techniques are kinda obsolete. I do things from scratch I care al ot about O(n),and I care a lot about every single byte and variable.
Which seems that nowadays, no body cares, everybody wants things to be done immediately, and computers are so powerful that no body cares about these things anymore.
On top of that, there are IDEs, Frameworks, and Snippets Generators that help with much faster programming.
Basically kinda learning from scratch…

  1. Stop caring about bytes. You’re not programming in assembly are you? 🙂 Although, those were fun days.

What applications are you looking to build? From there choose the language. There is no need to build something in Java and Spring if you can do it over a weekend using Rails.

As for general purpose IDEs, check out eclipse.

  2. hehe I am using Eclipse.
I know what you mean but its getting weird for me, starting to discover web frameworks recently, working on Zend at the moment.
Its just way different from what I am used to. I am guessing I need 2 or 3 months to back in the game.

  3. I don;t know the answer

  4. 1) BPEL/J2EE/Java on WebSphere Process Server (WPS) and WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus (WESB)
    2)Windows XP
    3)WebSphere Integration Developer (WID)
    4)CVS
    5)Copy/Paste
